From the Ivory Tower to the Streets: Academia and Social Change

In an ongoing effort to get academic institutions, staff and students more involved in social justice and human rights in Israel, on May 12, SHATIL co-sponsored a conference, "The University as a Leader of Social change?" with Tel Aviv University, Ben Gurion University of the Negev, the Hebrew University and the Council for Higher Education. SHATIL Associate Director Carlos Sztyglic spoke about collaborations between academic institutions and civil society organizations. The conference was part of the three-year old Academic-Community Partnership for Social Change, which SHATIL helps lead. Hosted by the Faculty of Law at the Hebrew University, the Partnership sponsors special university courses in social change, brings together the lecturers of these courses as well as student activists for seminars, sponsors a yearly conference, and more.
